Surface Preparation

About this event

This one-hour session on Sanding and Surface Preparation will focus on getting the most out of power sanding tools. We’ll look at the different types of machines—such as random orbit sanders, detail sanders, and belt sanders—and cover when and how to use each for best results. The session will also touch on choosing the right abrasives and grits to match the job, along with simple safety and handling tips.

We’ll walk through sanding sequences, grain direction, and techniques to avoid common mistakes like swirl marks and uneven surfaces. With practical demonstrations and clear guidance, attendees will come away with a solid understanding of how to prepare wood surfaces efficiently and achieve a clean, professional finish using power sanding methods.

Please see “Additional Info” on this event for a handout Milton has prepared that covers the major points of his presentation.
