How to set up two factor authentication on the Guild's Google Workspace

Some Board, Director and Committee members have not been able to access the Guild's Google Workspace because Google is enforcing 2 factor authentication (2FA). Here's a quick tutorial to fix it in case you're having problems getting in.

Note: Google is constantly updating, and what you see depends on your platform and OS, so you may see something completely different from the instructions shown below.

If you continue to have problems, be sure you're using the latest version of Chrome and that you are logged into Chrome using your correct email, i.e. the Guild email assigned to you. You can also restart your computer and browser, which is always a good idea to do when you have any problems.

If you get an email from Google about setting up your 2FA, just follow the instructions.

This is what I saw when I clicked on the email and after logging in. Just click Enroll.

If you did not get an email, see below.

If you did not get an email from Google asking you to set up 2FA, do the following.

Using your Chrome browser, search on Google 2 step verification and click the two-step verification - Sign in link. The words may differ slightly from what you see here.

You will be required to log into your account using a password.

Once logged in you should end up at a screen similar to this one to the right.

Once you get to this page it's all downhill.

So click on the Turn on 2-Step Verification button.

Google will automatically set up your 2FA based on your profile and let you know with this screen. Click Done.

With me, it used my phone number, i.e. Google will text me a code to enter to allow access.

You can choose alternate authenticators like passkeys, a Google prompt, an authenticator app or backup codes. Use what you are most comfortable with.
