The Jimmy Carter Woodworking Education Center
The Woodworkers Guild of Georgia is proud to announce the planned creation of the Jimmy Carter Woodworking Education Center and the launch of a capital campaign to support its construction and launch.
You are invited to participate as an individual, corporate or philanthropic partner.
The Center will celebrate master woodworker and Georgia’s native son Jimmy Carter and will feature an active learning environment for woodworkers of all levels, from novices curious about the craft to hobbyists to master craftsmen and women. The center will also serve as a hub for community service projects and group builds that leverage the skills of the Guild’s members.
A planned 10,000 square foot woodworking shop, meeting rooms and related facilities will host nationally known woodworking teachers and will feature regular classes at all skill levels taught by Guild members, who will have access to industrial quality tools for instruction and to work on their own projects.
The Center will help prepare the next generation of woodworkers, whether their interest is avocational or in preparation for a career in related fields and will help Georgia remain at the forefront of technical education, while serving the community good.
We are honored to have the support of the Carter family, including Josh Carter, President Carter’s grandson – a master woodworker in his own right -- who inherited his grandfather’s passion for woodworking (and his tools!) That tradition of education from “Master” to “Apprentice” has a long history in woodworking and will be central to the mission of the Jimmy Carter Woodworking Education Center.
Target opening dates are late 2027 or early 2028. We look forward to your support of this exciting endeavor.
